LASER LAB

The Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design’s Laser Lab has grown over the past several years to function as a place where digital and hand crafting is learned and developed.

The Laser Lab has four Universal Laser CO2 laser cutters that vector cut and raster etch with superb quality. Ranging in power from 30 watts to 60 watts. The lab’s Universal Laser Systems are a highly reliable resource for cutting or etching plastic, wood and paper products. Laser cut parts are used by students for prototyping, model building and full-scale fabrication in some cases.

Located on the ground level of Vol Walker Hall, the facility is staffed by one full-time digital technology specialist and several undergraduate student assistants. The lab is available to Fay Jones School students and faculty for design, coursework and research projects. Before using the facility, everyone must go through orientation as well as training sessions for specific tools. More details about the requirements for using the facility are outlined in the Fabrication Laboratories Handbook found on the policy page.

Reservations for FAY Jones Students and Faculty can be accessed by scanning the QR Code on this page and selecting an available Date & Time.

Non-FAY Jones Students, Faculty or any inquiries from outside of the University of Arkansas should email rmdickin@uark.edu.

Laser appointments take place in Vol Walker Hall 016 (Laser Lab).
